you're not looking for a scholarly discourse or to participate in an
early aviation adventure. You just need a little information on the
Wright brothers. Well, we're here to help with that, too. |
|
While we offer a lot of information on pioneer aviation on this
web site, we don't
have it all. No one web site does; the subject is too vast. The
pioneering efforts to develop aviation into a practical form of transportation spanned the
globe. Thousands of individuals and organizations
made significant contributions. Consequently, there is no end to the
exciting and inspiring stories you might find elsewhere. If you would like
to do further research, we can recommend publications,
documentaries, museums, libraries. archives, repositories, and
– of course – additional web sites. And if you run across a resource
that we haven't listed here, please let us know.
|
The Library of Congress offers over 300 high-resolution digital
photos of the Wright brother online.
|
Because we keep up on the standard scholastic benchmarks for our
own school presentations (see
The Secret of Flight), we know what
your teachers are looking for. There is a tremendous emphasis on
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education these
days and the Wright brothers were into all of that in a big way. Review what we have in this
section of our museum; explore other sections, and if you'd like t
know more, please ask.

Some of Orville's homework – Orville made this sketch of a pussy
willow after his high school botany class took a field trip to
Huffman Prairie, well-known for its diverse plant life. Years later,
Orville and Wilbur would use the same prairie to test fly their
airplanes.
|
What is Wilbur Wright's middle name? How many brothers and
sisters did the Wright brothers have? How much did the first
airplane engine weigh? How many airplanes did the Wright brothers
build?
If all you need is an authoritative answer to a question like
those, then this online-reference is just what you need. Tip:
To find what you need to know as quickly as possible, go to our
Museum Index
and look it up alphabetically..

Neither Wilbur, his brother Orville, or any of the Wright children
had middle names. Find out why at
