In the early summer of 1899, just as he was beginning to seriously
consider building an airplane, Wilbur Wright sent this letter to the
Smithsonian Institution, searching for information on aeronautics
and aircraft design.

Although we register our pages with Google as quickly as we post
them, it takes time for them to send out their spider-bots to survey
a new page, collect the keywords, do that voodoo they do so well,
and add it to their archives. For that reason, we have also provided
an optional method for you to search. If Google fails to find a
topic that you request, check our
Museum Index. The
index may not have the horsepower of a search engine – you look up
topics the old-fashioned way, i.e. alphabetically – but it will
usually be more current than the search engine. And perhaps because
our index has been assembled by pilots and historians, it may be
more in tune with the way you think when you're researching aviation
history. |
